Aberdeen have equaliser controversially disallowed against Celtic

Zander Diamond scores a last minute equaliser for Aberdeen against Celtic on Saturday 19th April 2008, which would have effectively halted Celtics title challenge. However referee Ian Brines controversially disallows the goal because of a handball by Barry Nicholson seconds earlier. Barry Nicholsons hands were no where near the ball as he jumped and headed it on as the screencap below shows.

I see this "unbiased" version of events forgets to mention the TWO perfectly good goals that Samaras had chalked off earlier in this game.

I'm sure it was a total mistake. It is easily done when the rest of the game outside of the incident you refer to was completely forgotten about by the Scottish press. Setanta Sports, BBC Scotland and STV didn't even bother to show one of the disallowed goals. They obviously had decided to dedicate too much of their time to whinging about this goal that never was.

I'm not going to deny that the referee's decision to give a foul for hand ball is an insane one but a lot of people don't bother to take account of the fact that he blows his whistle very quickly after this. By the time Diamond has hit his shot Boruc has stopped moving. He doesn't even try to stop it. None of the Aberdeen players celebrate because they all heard the whistle well before the ball hits the net. Had play went on as normal he might not even have put it in the net.
